My 2016 green beauty secrets

green-beauty-secrets-2016
As we get ready to ring in a new year, here are some of the green beauty discoveries I made in 2016. Happy New Year to you all!

1. The power of aromatherapy

My absolute favourite discovery of 2016 was a new appreciation for the power of essential oils, covered in my post Essential tips for essential oils. 2016 has been a stressful year for me and the calming effects of aromatherapy have been a huge help.

2. Make your NY resolution to cut out alcohol…from your skincare regime

Back in May I wrote about the downsides of alcohol in skincare. It’s massively drying, ageing and a risky move for sensitive skin. I cover the effects and different types here: The flaw in your anti-ageing beauty routine.

3. Shea butter for better, softer skin

As it seemed to be a component of nearly every moisturising product I used, I decided to cut out the middle man and buy shea butter to apply neat. I’ve since honed my application technique and now melt it gently in an oil burner (which I no longer use for burning essential oils – see post above for why) and smother my body in it post-shower. A deliciously decadent and cost effective moisturising treat. I’ve even found a way to make it work for travel: just put some in a tin or pot and leave in a basin of hot water to melt while you bathe. More here: Shea (butter) bliss.

4. The ultimate natural deodorant for sensitive skin

Any green beauty enthusiast will tell you that finding effective nasties-free deodorants is tough. The best ones use baking soda to neutralise BO, but that can cause issues for sensitive underarms. This year I found a brilliant alternative in UK brand The Natural Deodorant Co.’s Gentle Deodorant Cream. It’s a must have.
